Protective Equipment
Free protective equipment is available to residents of the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP) zones around Anniston Army Depot. The type of equipment available is determined by how close your home is to the Depot. Use the CSEPP Zone Finder to determine your zone.
 
Shelter-in-place kit
If you live in a CSEPP zone in Calhoun, Clay, Cleburne, Etowah, St. Clair or Talladega County, you should have a shelter-in-place kit. When you receive the shelter-in-place kit, watch the enclosed video for information about sheltering in place.

Portable room air cleaner
If you live in Calhoun County in zone A-3, A-4, C-2, D-2, B-3, M-1 or M-2 or in Talladega County in zone C-4, C-4A, C-5, B-12, or B-13, you should have a portable room air cleaner and a shelter-in-place kit.
 
Protective hood
If you live in Calhoun County in zone A-1, A-1A, A-2, D-1, B-1, B-2, C-1 or C-1A, you may receive a protective hood, a portable room air cleaner and a shelter-in-place kit.
 
How do I receive my equipment?
Calhoun County residents can pick up their protective equipment at Metro Services in Anniston. Call 256.237.3414 for more information. If you need protective equipment for a business or other facility, contact Calhoun County Emergency Management Agency at 256.435.0540.
 
When receiving your equipment:
  • Proof of residency is required. You should bring a photo ID, a utility bill or another document that verifies your correct street address.
  • Be prepared to spend approximately a half hour to receive training about sheltering.
  • If you live in a zone where residents may receive a protective hood, you will be required to visit a designated local doctor who will complete a medical questionnaire to make sure there is no reason why you cannot use the protective hood.
Emergency management agencies in Clay, Cleburne, Etowah, St. Clair and Talladega counties have made arrangements to distribute protective equipment in their counties. Contact your local emergency management agency for more information.
