Alabama Caregiver Training educates people with special needs about emergency preparedness and teaches them to identify:
  • Hazards that could affect them and their community
  • Unique challenges that they may face during an emergency due to a physical, mental or medical disability
  • Resources to meet those challenges
  • People who can become part of a help network

The 2004 Harris Interactive Survey by the National Organization on Disabilities found that only 16 percent of public awareness campaigns directed at people with disabilities are in accessible formats. To bridge this gap in communication, our training and education materials are written for people who already have a trusted role in the life of a person with special needs – caregivers.

Our training materials can be used by professional caregivers such as home healthcare aides and caseworkers. They can also be used by family members, community volunteers and others who provide services to people with special needs.
